How to choose your engagement ring size secretly?

The Perfect Surprise: Secret Mission

Figuring out your engagement ring size could be the subject of a survival course. But it's simple! All you need is your partner's ring, proven methods, and a bit of detective skills. So, if you want to go it alone, here are a few tips to help you achieve your goal.

For an engagement ring to be comfortable, it should be fitted so that it slips gently over the knuckle on the ring finger of the right hand (in Poland, on the left hand abroad). With this fit, the ring will be secure and comfortable. If you can choose the ring together, the easiest way is to visit a jeweler during a consultation, who will carefully measure your finger. But what if the engagement is a surprise?

Proven methods that will make choosing the right size easier

How to measure your engagement ring size secretly?

  • Using a different ring: If your fiancée-to-be wears rings on her ring finger, you can take one of them to a jeweler to have its diameter accurately measured. Alternatively, you can measure the ring yourself with a caliper and compare the result to the size chart available in our online store – however, this measurement is not always accurate.

  • Help from a loved one: You can ask a friend or sister of your loved one to discreetly ask for your ring size. This will maintain the element of surprise and give you the information you need.

  • What we definitely don't recommend? Plastic ring sizers available online. We've tested them on many people and, sadly, we're almost always disappointed that the measurements were inaccurate. Using a ribbon or a strip of paper isn't a proven solution either.

Most frequently chosen engagement ring sizes

If you don't have access to your loved one's other jewelry or can't take any of the above measurements, and you want to maintain confidentiality, it's safest to stick with the most common sizes. The average engagement ring size for a woman is usually a size 13. For slim fingers, it might be a size 11, or for wider fingers, a size 16. Also, remember that a ring that's too small might not fit over your knuckle, so it's better to go for a larger size so that the ring can slide on easily on your finger on your engagement day.

What to do if the size turns out to be wrong?

Engagement ring size wrong? Here's what you can do!

Even if your ring size is slightly off, you can (almost!) always have it sized up or down by a jeweler. Every ring purchased in our online store (with the exception of some custom rings and the Coded wedding band) is subject to resizing.

Contact us! If the ring was made in our workshop, we can certainly help. If not, there are a few ways to do this. It's worth mentioning that before purchasing an engagement ring, it's worth asking if the store offers resizing or exchanges if the size isn't right. If, after the engagement, it turns out that this isn't possible, there's one practical solution. Order a delicate gold wedding band for your partner, perfectly matched to wear with the engagement ring. We recommend a flat gold band to fit under the ring and prevent it from rotating, or a round band to secure it so it doesn't fall off the finger.
