The Engagement Ring That Became The Shining
A history of jewelry with soul
Paulina, the titular "Trzpiotka," and I have known each other for several years now. As soon as I launched my jewelry business, I knew I would be one of my most loyal customers! Then I met Maciek, my now-fiancé, and secretly believed that one day a beautiful, delicate, vintage-style ring, unlike most engagement rings, would appear on my finger.
How did the ring get its name?
The real story goes like this: Paula created a series of gold rings with various stones, such as mysterious gray diamonds and "salt and pepper" diamonds. She posted a photo of one of them, with a single, shimmering gray diamond, asking what she might call this little wonder. I messaged Paula and said the ring looked like "Shining" to me. Paulina, aka "Trzpiotka," clearly liked the name, as the ring appears under that name on both Trzpiotka's website and Instagram. ;) I was thrilled, of course, and oh well, life went on.
A surprise proposal in Sri Lanka
Shortly afterward, Maciek and I left for a long-planned trip to Sri Lanka. Paula regularly posted photos on her flighty Instagram, and I watched and commented on them from the incredible, exotic places we visited. At one point, Paula posted a photo of the Shining with other rings, and I showed it to Maciek, jokingly asking if it was my engagement ring. I laughed and forgot. A few days later, Maciek dragged me out to watch the sunrise over the ocean, saying he'd like to take a few photos and maybe swim when the beach was empty. I went rather reluctantly, because who doesn't like to sleep in sometimes, especially on vacation? And I'm glad I did, because at one point, Maciek dropped to one knee (I was shocked) and asked, "Will you marry me?" A ring also caught my eye, and you can probably guess which one. The Shining, it was a beautiful, mysterious Shining! The ring in the photo, which I jokingly said would be my engagement ring. It turned out great. I wasn't expecting anything; it was a typical "everyone knew except the bride and groom" situation, so the surprise was a surprise, and the Shining is now with me every day. I love this ring; it's comfortable, unique, and I love looking at its sparkling diamond center. Thank you, my dearest, Trzpiotko!
